In search of Fish!
Port Lavaca/Sargent, Texas

We finally got set up around 2 in the morning after having a very interesting traffic stop 300 yards from where I was going to fish. I knew something was up when he asked if I had anything illegal in the truck? The only thing that SHOULD be illegal is how much food I have to provide for Albert. We quickly had two pickups which we missed. The first bait was brought in so quick that I could not keep up with the fish and he dropped it 20 yards from the pier. The second one I think was a gafftop or sheepshead. the crab wad not crushed but bitten off on one corner. After that the fish were taking lots of line and fighting very well for the size of fish they were. I did notice that they were milking (if you know what I mean). This usually happens in early March and not his late in the year. I think the BU will be hanging on for the next 2-3 weeks. Here is the the first fish of the night. He was a fighter and had some girth too him. He barley missed the monster list by 1/4 of an inch.

After a couple of lost baits to the sheepshead we had another big run. Albert never woke up and Priscilla said she did not want to get it so I guess it was my turn again. Especially when there wasn't anyone else on the pier at 4am. This fish was a little smaller than the other but I think it fought harder. 40 incher with a big head.

We stuck around till around noon and decided to head somewhere else. I called GL and he said he and his father-in-law Robert had caught a few in Sargent so we were off. We picked up a few more crabs and some drinks from sonic on the way. Food for us and the fish. We get to Sargent and let us know that he had just landed a small drum. We were pumped to know they were still there. We set out our rods and 20 minutes latter GL yells out! I turn around and the rod I had just re-thrown was starting to bend. I took it out of the rod holder and handed it to Andie. She ought that fish like a beast! Eventually she got it to the net. Check out this 39 incher. Not bad for a little girl.

We were sitting there BS'ing and throwing rocks and such when we see GL hooked up. It was giving him a very good fight. We eventually see it and it was a golden monster. This 43-1/4 incher gets him on theMONSTER List!

Nice fish GL! You and your crew need to get with us soon on the beach to see if we can get onto some BIG sharks. I want to Thank GOD for all the blessings and GOOD friends he has givin this family.
